With increasing media attention, global health initiatives have gained increasing popularity with students, and in the general community, in recent years. While there are a handful of student-led organizations on the UAB campus which promote global health activities, they are limited in their scope and usually serve the interests of a limited body of students or an individual School. The Sparkman Center for Global Health is proposing to form the UAB Global Health Organization as a campus-wide forum for students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness of and promote global health endeavors across the UAB campus, in the local community, and beyond.
A series of meetings were held with student, staff, and faculty representatives from across campus to garner input on the structure and purpose of such a group at UAB. What came out of those meetings was that there needs to be some way of sharing global news at UAB across campus. This quarterly newsletter was created to do just that and to raise awareness of international events going on around campus and ways to get students, faculty, staff involved. The other thing that emerged from the meetings is that each year a different theme/topic could be chosen and activities then could be organized around the topic.
With this in mind, we would like to solicit feedback on potential activities people would like to be involved in and to pick a theme for 2011.
