UAB Global Health Interest Group

With increasing media attention, global health initiatives have gained increasing popularity with students, and in the general community, in recent years. While there are a handful of student-led organizations on the UAB campus which promote global health activities, they are limited in their scope and usually serve the interests of a limited body of students or an individual School.

Register for the 2011 UAB Global Health Case Competition

UAB’s global health case competition is a unique opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students at UAB to come together as a multidisciplinary team to propose innovative recommendations to a global health issue. The winning team will receive $1,500 and the opportunity to compete in the national competition at Emory University in March 2011. The second place team will receive $500.

500 Miles for Hunger–on foot

On February 9, 2011, Joseph Henry, a student at the UAB School of Public Health, will begin a 17-day run from the White House in Washington, DC to the 6th Annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada to raise awareness on hunger and poverty issues.

Scholarships available for Hunger Summit

The Sparkman Center for Global Health is offering 3 scholarships to attend the 6th Annual Summit of Universities Fighting World Hunger. This year’s summit will be held outside the United States for the first time at the University of Guelph in Canada from Feb. 25th-Feb. 27th, 2011.
